Gesture & etiquette

Receive the card with both hands, holding it by the lower corners so you do not cover any text. Bow approximately 15-20 degrees as you say the phrase. After receiving, look at the card and read the name and title briefly — this shows respect. Place it face-up on the table in front of you during the meeting; put it in a proper card case when you leave.

When receiving a business card, hold it with both hands and read it carefully before placing it on the table in front of you or in a card holder — never stuff it directly into a pocket or write on it in front of the giver. 'Choudai itashimasu' (I humbly receive this) is the most formal and correct reception phrase.
