Gesture & etiquette

Make a gesture of spreading something on the floor, or point to the stacked futons.

At some traditional ryokan, staff consider it part of their service to lay out and put away futons. Asking to do it yourself is fine, but don't just assume and do it without checking, especially in high-end establishments. Be prepared for either option.
