Hold up the bento you wish to have heated.
Some convenience store items (e.g., salads, sandwiches, certain pastries) are not meant to be heated. While most bentos are designed for it, if you're unsure, it's always best to ask. Also, if you buy multiple items, they might ask '全て温めますか？(Subete atatamemasu ka? - Heat all of them?)' or 'どちらを温めますか？(Dochira o atatamemasu ka? - Which one would you like heated?)'.
