申し訳ございませんが、当館は刺青のある方はご入浴いただけません。

もうしわけございませんが、とうかんはいれずみのあるかたはごにゅうよくいただけません。

I'm sorry, but at our facility, guests with tattoos are unable to use the baths.

Gesture & etiquette

Approach the front desk staff directly and calmly — there's no need to feel embarrassed; a brief, respectful inquiry is the professional way to handle this; if refused, thank them and ask about private bath alternatives.

Around 56% of Japanese onsen still prohibit tattoos (刺青禁止) due to historical associations with organized crime. Always ask in advance rather than undressing first. Tattooed visitors can inquire about private baths (貸し切り風呂): 'プライベートバスはありますか?' (Do you have a private bath?). Tourist-oriented and resort facilities are increasingly tattoo-friendly.
