Gesture & etiquette

Walk slightly ahead and to the side, holding their arm or accompanying them at their pace. Open the bathroom door for them and let them enter first, or enter first to confirm the temperature if needed. Have everything prepared — towels, clean clothes, bathing chair — before you bring them to the bathroom. Never rush bath preparation.

Proactively warming the bathroom before bringing a senior resident is a fundamental care practice — sudden temperature changes can be uncomfortable and stressful. Announcing this preparation ('atatakaku shite arimasu' — it has been warmed up for you) communicates thoughtful advance care and puts the resident at ease before the bath experience begins.
