Gesture & etiquette
On phone, sit upright, deliver clearly. In person, slight bow (15-30 degrees) at the conclusion. Make eye contact briefly before the bow. Avoid pulling out business cards until after this opening exchange.
Osewa ni natte orimasu' (I am in your care) is the opening phrase for nearly every business call, email, and visit in Japan — even if the speaker has never personally interacted with the recipient. It signals that you're part of an ongoing business relationship. 'Itsumo' (always) adds warmth. The exchange is reciprocal — the listener replies with 'kochira koso' (likewise).
