Gesture & etiquette
Reach naturally for passing plates — the conveyor belt culture is casual and self-directed. Stacking your finished plates neatly in front of you is standard — the server or auto-counter will tally them. Do not lean across the belt or stand to reach distant items.
At kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi), take plates directly from the belt as they pass. Do not put a plate back once you have touched it. Each plate has a colored rim indicating its price — counting stacked plates at the end determines the bill. Use the touchscreen or call a staff member for special orders not on the belt.
