Gesture & etiquette

Make eye contact around the room and pause for 3-4 seconds — longer than feels comfortable. This gives Japanese audience members time to formulate and decide whether to ask. A reassuring nod when no questions come signals you're ready to continue.

Pausing to invite questions mid-presentation builds trust and reduces information overload. Japanese listeners tend to hold questions until the end — this explicit mid-point invitation breaks that pattern and catches misunderstandings early. 「お申し付けください」(please let me know) is more hospitable than 「質問ありますか?」(do you have questions?).
