Gesture & etiquette
Welcoming bow (20-30°) at the entrance, warm smile, both hands clasped lightly in front. After bowing, gentle eye contact and approach slowly to offer to take their bag or coat. No hugs or arm-grabbing — physical effusiveness can startle.
Greeting a senior returning from hospital. '何よりです' (nothing is better than this) conveys deep relief and warmth without overdramatizing illness. Do not ask details about the hospital stay unless they bring it up themselves. Just be genuinely glad they are back.
