Gesture & etiquette
Stand at the foot of the bed (not looming over them), bow your head about 15 degrees, and smile warmly. Speak slowly and a touch louder than normal to account for nighttime hearing.
Shift change introductions are crucial—seniors often feel anxious when a new face appears, especially at night. State your role 「夜勤の」 (night-shift) first, then your name. This grounds them in the situation. 「よろしくお願いします」 is the standard polite opener.
