Gesture & etiquette
Stand at slightly less than arm's length, bow about 30 degrees with hands at sides. Smile warmly but not overly enthusiastically (can feel overwhelming on day one). Have name tag visible. After greeting, sit beside them (not across) for the orientation conversation.
First-day welcome to a new resident. Frame yourself as the humble servant ('お世話させていただきます') rather than the authority. New residents are often anxious about losing autonomy—this phrasing signals respect for their continued agency. Follow up with a brief facility tour at their pace, never rushing.
