Point to the bill you have, or gesture towards where a change machine might be.
Avoid asking for change for 5,000 or 10,000 yen bills, as most bus change machines only accept 1,000 yen bills or smaller coins. Try to have exact change or a 1,000 yen bill ready before your stop.
