演歌が好きでしたよ。美空ひばりが一番です。

えんかがすきでしたよ。みそらひばりがいちばんです。

I loved enka music. Misora Hibari was the best.

Gesture & etiquette

Listen with full attention and genuine interest. If you can quietly hum or acknowledge a song title they mention, it deepens connection. If possible, have a music player available to softly play music from the senior's era during care activities.

Music activates vivid autobiographical memories in ways conversation alone often cannot. Familiar melodies from someone's youth — especially enka or wartime/postwar songs for older Japanese — can reconnect seniors with their personal history and elicit emotionally rich stories.
