Gesture & etiquette

React with genuine delight to their accomplishments. Follow up naturally: 'Sono sensei wa subarashii hito datta no desu ne?' (That teacher sounds wonderful). Allow them to describe the teacher, classmates, or school environment in as much detail as they wish.

School memories are often emotionally positive for seniors — a time of growth, friendships, and discovery. Asking about a subject they excelled in frames them as capable and accomplished. This often unlocks further stories about teachers, classmates, and formative experiences.
