Gesture & etiquette
Stand or remain seated at the head of the table. Glance briefly at the agenda or screen as you transition. Speak with measured pace — rushing transitions makes the meeting feel chaotic. Pause briefly after to give the group a moment to switch focus.
When chairing a meeting, transition phrases keep the flow polite and predictable. 'Sore dewa' (well then) is the standard segue. 'Utsurasete itadakimasu' (with your permission, I'll move us along) acknowledges that you're acting on behalf of the group, not commanding it. Useful for maintaining authority without being domineering.
