Gesture & etiquette
Stand at the head of the table or at a screen. Use hand gestures to enumerate ('three points' — show three fingers briefly). Eye contact with the room as you announce each item. Slight pause between item announcements to allow note-taking.
Opening a meeting with clear agenda enumeration ('san-ten gozaimasu' = there are three items) prevents wandering discussions. Number each item ('mazu hitotsume,' 'tsugi ni,' 'saigo ni') so attendees can mentally track progress. State the topic of each before getting into details. This structure is appreciated by Japanese audiences who often take careful notes.
