Bring the mikan in both hands at chest height. Place on a small plate. Offer to peel if their hands shake — peel slowly, pull strings, separate into segments on the plate. Sit beside them to share one.
みかん (mikan, mandarin orange) is Japan's winter fruit — the cultural pair こたつ (kotatsu heated table) + みかん is universally nostalgic. Peel for them if they have hand-dexterity concerns.
