Gesture & etiquette
Sit face-to-face, not across a desk (low barrier). Eye contact, warm but professional. Have a small notebook ready to take notes during the kickoff. Bow at the start and end of the meeting (15°).
Mentorship kickoff sets expectations. Define duration ('三ヶ月' three months) and the 'support' framing — not boss-subordinate. First meeting topics: mentee's goals, communication style preferences, regular meeting cadence, what 'success' looks like at end of program. Treat as collaboration, not instruction.
