Gesture & etiquette
Stand to address opening. Make eye contact with both Japanese and international participants to signal inclusion. Speak slowly initially—language switches are jarring. Offer simultaneous interpretation if available.
Bilingual meeting language switch announcement. 「~ので、英語で進めさせていただきます」 explains the why before the action. Always inform Japanese-only participants in advance—surprise English switch causes face loss for less proficient members. If documents are pre-translated, mention: 「資料は両言語ご用意しております」.
