Gesture & etiquette

Place the omiyage box on the communal desk or kitchen with a small bow. You do not need to wait while everyone opens them — placing and announcing is sufficient. The 「よかったら」(if you'd like) is a polite softener that invites rather than obligates.

Bringing 「お土産」(omiyage) from trips to share with colleagues is a deeply ingrained Japanese social ritual. The gift is typically individually packaged sweets (個包装) so everyone can take one easily. Place it on the shared desk or break room, not given to specific individuals — the gesture is for the whole group.
