Gesture & etiquette
Demonstrate a slow, deliberate bow rather than a brisk one — modeling the pace you're describing. Lower your eyes during the bow as a sign of respectful attention.
茶道 (sadou/chadou) is a practice of 「一期一会」(ichi-go ichi-e — once-in-a-lifetime encounter). Every gesture — lifting the bowl, folding the cloth — is performed with full presence. Guests are expected to appreciate the silence and pace rather than filling it with small talk. The host's every movement is considered an offering.
