Gesture & etiquette

Choose a private moment away from other residents for this conversation. Maintain a calm, matter-of-fact tone — concerned but composed. Have your care notes available if the family asks for more details. End with an offer of further communication: 'Nanika gozaimashitara, itsudemo orenraku kudasai' (Please contact us anytime if anything comes up).

When sharing observations about night-waking with family, 'you desu' (it seems / appears that) is the appropriate evidential qualifier — it communicates the observation without overstating certainty. Following it with 'hikidzuki yousu wo misasete itadakimasu' (we will continue monitoring) reassures the family that the situation is noted and being watched, without causing alarm.
