Gesture & etiquette
Sit at eye level, message paper visible. Read slowly with warmth. Pause after to let them absorb. Hand them the paper to keep if they wish. Note any response they want relayed back.
Family messages relayed to seniors are emotional bridges. Use respectful family terms: お嬢様 (daughter), ご子息様 (son), お孫様 (grandchild). Read the message slowly and exactly as given — don't paraphrase. Watch their face; let them request a re-read. If video call is possible, offer to set it up. Note their response/wishes to relay back to family.
