Gesture & etiquette
If at shrine, speak with reverent quiet tone. Gesture toward the kagura-den (神楽殿, dance hall) if visible. Recommend Iwami Kagura performances in Shimane or Takachiho Kagura in Miyazaki for memorable experience.
「神楽」 (kagura) is Shinto sacred dance, originating from Amaterasu's cave-emergence myth. Types: 巫女神楽 (miko shrine maiden dances), 出雲流神楽 (Izumo-style narrative dance-drama), 採物神楽 (with sacred objects). Famous: 石見神楽 (Iwami, Shimane), 高千穂神楽 (Takachiho, Miyazaki). Performed at festivals especially harvest and new year.
