Near the river is best. If you go early you can get seats at the front.
Gesture & etiquette
Point toward the river or open sky when discussing the viewing spot. Sharing food and drinks during the wait is customary. When the fireworks begin, 'tamaya!' or 'kagiya!' are traditional shouts of appreciation (named after famous old fireworks makers).
Hanabi taikai (fireworks festivals) take place across Japan in summer, usually July-August. Arrive 1-2 hours early to secure a spot. Bringing a blue sheet (blue tarpaulin) to mark your area is customary — others will respect the reserved space. Wearing a yukata increases the festive atmosphere.
