Gesture & etiquette
Stand to the side of the doors in the designated waiting zone (usually marked on the platform). Step back as the train arrives to make space. Wait for the exiting flow to fully clear before stepping forward to board.
Train boarding etiquette in Japan requires waiting for all exiting passengers before entering. Marked lines on the platform show where to queue. Rushing aboard before people exit is considered extremely rude — Japanese commuters queue with remarkable orderliness even during peak rush hours.
