That's amazing. How long has this tradition been going?
Gesture & etiquette
Speak respectfully and with a warm tone when explaining Obon — it is deeply tied to family and grief. If the listener appears curious rather than skeptical, invite more questions: 「盆踊りを見てみたいですか?」(Would you like to see Bon dancing?).
Obon (mid-August, around 13-16th) is one of Japan's most significant annual traditions — millions travel home to be with family. Activities include lighting welcome fires (迎え火), lantern floating (灯籠流し), and Bon dancing (盆踊り). During this period, businesses may close and transport becomes extremely crowded.
