Gesture & etiquette
Gesture to a displayed kimono or photo if available — visual reference makes the invitation concrete. If at a shop, guide the visitor toward the fitting area warmly. Explain that assistance will be provided throughout so there is no need to know how to do it alone.
Kimono dressing (着付け体験) is one of the most popular cultural experiences for foreign visitors in Japan, particularly in Kyoto and historic districts. The experience usually takes 30-60 minutes and allows the visitor to wear a rented kimono for the day — many feel it profoundly deepens their connection to Japan.
