Gesture & etiquette
Stand if your superior is standing, or seated upright if at desk. Speak with calm confidence — not too soft (sounds uncertain) or loud. Brief eye contact when stating the ETA. A small nod when receiving acknowledgment.
Progress reports to superiors should follow 'current state → completion ETA' clearly and concisely. 'Orimasu' is the humble form of 'imasu' — appropriate for reporting your own status to a superior. Round numbers ('hachiwari' = 80%, 'kuwari' = 90%) feel more honest than precise but unverifiable figures. Always commit to a timeline; vagueness erodes trust.
