うんねえ、横綱が強いけど、今日はあの関取が気になるなあ。
うんねえ、よこづながつよいけど、きょうはあのせきとりがきになるなあ。
Hmm, the yokozuna is strong, but I've got my eye on that wrestler today.
Gesture & etiquette
Casual relaxed posture, animated discussion. Hand gestures while describing techniques. If watching live, sit forward during close bouts, react with the crowd. Cheering aloud ('yossha!') is fine in informal settings; quiet appreciation at the venue itself.
Sumo (sumou) has six annual 15-day tournaments (basho) — three in Tokyo, plus Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka. 'Yuushou' (championship) discussion is a friendly fan topic. The hierarchy descends: yokozuna (top), ozeki, sekiwake, komusubi, maegashira. Modern sumo also embraces international wrestlers prominently. If watching together at home, snacks and shared excitement during top matches are part of the experience.
