Gesture & etiquette

Address the team while standing. Bow 30 degrees at the conclusion, hold for 2 seconds. Warm but composed expression. If announcing 1-on-1 to colleagues, repeat with each major team member. Bring small omiyage if culturally fitting.

Returning from parental leave or extended medical leave requires acknowledging the team's coverage during your absence. 'Gomeiwaku o okake itashimashita' (sorry for any trouble) is standard Japanese humility, even if you legally were entitled to the leave. Following with concrete forward commitment ('honjitsu yori fukki') closes the apology and reframes toward future contribution. Small gifts (omiyage from leave activities) are common.
