立秋を過ぎたら残暑見舞いに変わるんですよね。
りっしゅうをすぎたらざんしょみまいにかわるんですよね。
And after risshuu, they become zansho-mimai, right?
Gesture & etiquette
Card written by hand if possible — printed is acceptable but adds personal note. Send by Japan Post (kamome-iri postcards have summer designs). No bow involved unless delivering by hand.
Summer correspondence custom: 暑中見舞い (shochuu-mimai) sent from end of tsuyu (rainy season, mid-July) until 立秋 (risshuu, around August 7). After 立秋, the card name changes to 残暑見舞い (zansho-mimai, late-summer greeting), sent until end of August. Asks after the recipient's health during heat. Send to teachers, mentors, clients, distant family.
