Gesture & etiquette
Stand at the doorway facing back into the room. Bow (15°). Make brief eye contact at the end of the bow. Turn smoothly and walk out. Close the door quietly using your hand still on the handle.
Said when leaving a meeting room, superior's office, or any closed-door workspace. Past tense '失礼いたしました' (I have committed a discourtesy) is the more humble form than the present '失礼します' for departure. After saying it, bow (15°) at the doorway facing the room, then turn and leave. Close the door quietly with hand still on the handle.
