Gesture & etiquette

If demonstrating, mime delicately floating a flower on a sake cup. Recommend trying chestnut rice at autumn meal: '栗ご飯、秋になったら作ってみない?'. Cheerful seasonal tone.

Chouyou (Sep 9) traditional foods: 栗ご飯 (kuri-gohan, chestnut rice, autumn harvest celebration), 菊酒 (kiku-zake, chrysanthemum sake—edible petals floated on sake or wrapped with cotton soaked in dew), 菊の被綿 (kiku no kisewata—cotton cloth covering chrysanthemums overnight, then wiping body with dew-soaked cotton for longevity). Less observed today; survives in Kyoto temple traditions.
