Gesture & etiquette
Polite bow, then gesture to indicate wanting to sit.
Some izakayas (especially during peak hours) might require food orders. Be prepared for a polite refusal. Also, be aware of 'otōshi' (cover charge with a small appetizer) which is usually not optional.
