We use bonito (fish) broth, but it does not contain any actual meat.
Gesture & etiquette
Point to the specific dish on the menu or the large display bowl (obanzai) on the counter.
Do not assume 'no meat' means vegetarian in Japan, as fish-based dashi broth is used in almost all traditional dishes.
