Gesture & etiquette

Sit or crouch near the senior at meal height rather than standing over them. Watch the pace of eating and make eye contact gently once or twice during the meal. Never rush or clear dishes before the senior has finished.

Seniors may avoid complaining about food to seem polite. Explicitly inviting feedback ('please don't hesitate') gives permission to speak freely. Watch for subtle signs — food pushed aside, small bites, or a slowed pace — and ask proactively rather than waiting.
