Present two or three clearly visible options rather than opening the entire closet. Hold them up at eye level for easy viewing. Respond warmly to their choice: 'とてもお似合いですよ' (That suits you beautifully).
Offering choice in clothing — even a binary choice between two options — preserves the senior's sense of autonomy and personal style. Self-expression through clothing maintains identity and self-worth. Never choose for them unless they explicitly ask or are unable to do so.
