Sit beside the senior rather than in front of them. Demonstrate each gentle movement first and wait for them to follow — never push or pull limbs. Speak encouragingly throughout: 'Yoku dekimashita' (Well done). Stop immediately if they express any discomfort.
Framing movement as gentle exploration rather than exercise reduces resistance in seniors who may feel self-conscious about physical limitations. The joint participation framing ('together') reduces performance anxiety. Always demonstrate movements yourself at the same pace.
