Sit or crouch to be at their eye level when asking. Give them time to think — do not rush or suggest options before they've had a chance to respond independently.
Giving seniors choice over meals — even small choices — is a meaningful act of autonomy in care settings. If their preference isn't available, offer an alternative warmly: 「今日はないですが、明日用意できますよ」. Never dismiss preferences as trivial.
