Gesture & etiquette
A brief bow to the room and then a more personal farewell to your direct superior. Do not draw attention to your departure — slip away naturally after goodbyes rather than making it a big announcement.
Leaving a nomikai before others is socially acceptable as long as it's done with clear phrases. 「このくらいで」(at this point) signals you've stayed a reasonable amount of time. Say goodbye individually to the most senior people present before leaving — departing without acknowledgment is considered rude.
