Position yourself at the person's side so they can see what you're doing; hold their hand gently but firmly; explain each step before doing it; work slowly and deliberately to maintain trust throughout.

Always ask permission before touching a senior's body, even for routine care — phrasing it as a gentle observation ('少し伸びてきましたね') followed by a request ('よろしいですか?') is more respectful than simply announcing what you're going to do.
