Gesture & etiquette
Stand just outside arm's reach initially — close enough to assist instantly, but not crowding the senior. If helping, hold the garment open and guide one limb at a time, moving slowly. Never handle the person's body without verbal warning; always speak before touching.
Offering the option to dress independently first preserves the senior's dignity and autonomy — crucial in care. 「そばにおりますね」(I'll stay nearby) provides safety reassurance without hovering. Always narrate what you're doing before touching: 「こちらの袖から通しましょうか。」
