Place the water cup within easy reach before speaking. If the senior has difficulty gripping, ensure a cup with a handle or a straw is available. Remain nearby as they drink — do not rush away immediately. Observe carefully for any signs of difficulty swallowing.
Dehydration is a serious risk for seniors, especially in summer. 「少しずつで大丈夫ですよ」(just a little at a time is fine) removes the pressure of finishing a large amount, which seniors sometimes find overwhelming. Offering water proactively throughout the day is more effective than waiting until they report thirst.
