Gesture & etiquette
Have the name and purpose of your call written down before dialing. Speak clearly and at a measured pace. If the person is unavailable, offer to call back: 「それでは、またこちらからお電話いたします。」(I'll call again.) rather than leaving a number, which is more common in Japanese business practice.
「お世話になっております」is the near-universal opening for Japanese business phone calls — used even on a first contact with someone you've never spoken to before. Never skip it; it signals professionalism. Always state your company name before your own name when calling.
