Got a kichi (blessing). It said things will get better than before.
Gesture & etiquette
Casual, curious tone. Lean in to read each other's slips together. Laughter and friendly teasing about the results is normal. If your friend gets a bad fortune, suggest tying it together at the shrine rack. Respect the spiritual aspect even in casual exchange.
Omikuji (paper fortune slips) at shrines and temples rank from daikichi (great blessing) down through kichi (blessing), chuukichi, shoukichi, suekichi, kyou (curse), to daikyou (great curse). The slips include guidance on health, love, work, travel, etc. Good fortunes can be kept; bad fortunes are traditionally tied to a designated tree or rack at the shrine to leave the bad luck behind. Sharing omikuji results with friends is part of the fun.
