Gesture & etiquette
Stand at the entrance with the yuinou tray held in both hands at chest height, decorations facing up and toward the recipient. Deep bow (30-45°) before entering. Remove shoes carefully, point them outward.
結納 (yuinou) is the traditional engagement ceremony where families formalize the union with symbolic gifts (yuinou-hin). 'お日柄もよろしく' references rokuyou (六曜) — taian or tomobiki are auspicious choices. Wear muted formal attire — never black, never flashy. Modern simplified versions (yuinou-kanryaku-shiki) exist but the language stays formal.
