Gesture & etiquette
Stand at the side of the bath, not facing them directly (privacy). Keep a thermometer in the water if possible. Have a cup ready to add cold water quickly. Keep towels within reach for emergency exits.
Senior skin senses temperature less accurately — keep bath water at 38-41°C (never above 42°C). 'お湯加減' is the polite vocabulary for water temperature. Ask multiple times during bathing, not just at start. If water is even slightly too hot, add cold water immediately — never wait.
