大吉だった!持って帰ろうかな。
だいきちだった!もってかえろうかな。
I got daikichi (great fortune)! Maybe I'll take it home.
Gesture & etiquette
At the shrine: pay coin into box, gently shake the omikuji box, draw a stick with the number, hand stick to attendant who gives the matching slip. Read silently first. If bad, tie on the designated string with one hand (using your non-dominant hand to leave bad luck behind).
おみくじ (omikuji) fortune slips: 大吉 (great fortune) → 吉 (good) → 中吉 (medium good) → 小吉 (small good) → 末吉 (later good) → 凶 (bad) → 大凶 (great bad). Custom: take good ones home, tie bad ones to designated trees/strings at the shrine (called 結び). Pay 100-200 yen. Don't shake the box loudly — calm energy only.
