Show the blood pressure cuff before applying it so it's not unfamiliar; position the cuff at heart level on the upper arm while the senior is seated and relaxed; ask them to breathe normally and keep their arm still; report the reading calmly afterward.

Asking permission before any physical contact or measurement is a core caregiving principle that preserves autonomy. Explain the sensation before applying the cuff: '少し締め付けられますが、痛くないです' (it will tighten a bit, but it won't hurt). This preparation dramatically reduces anxiety and involuntary muscle tension.
